Glued laminated timber is a great material to work with, and there are several reasons to support this affirmation. Above we will give a quick overview of the product.
By laminating a number of smaller pieces of lumber in hydraulic presses and finger joining the elements, a single large, strong, structural member is manufactured. This construction implies the use of a few wooden specimens, which makes it stable and time-resistant, avoiding bending or twisting. The parts are bonded together with durable, moisture-resistant structural adhesives which are also ecological. All materials used in this process are sustainable, certificated, non toxic products.
Glued laminated timber provides good thermal insulation, about 1,1-1,8 W/mK, the acoustic insulation coefficient is R = 34dB. Glulam is readily produced in curved shapes and is available in a range of species and appearance characteristics, to meet varied end-use requirements.
